“Am I doing this right?” It’s the question we all ask when we first start applying for jobs, and it’s an even bigger question mark when we’re searching for jobs in a foreign country. Applying ‘correctly’ is important everywhere, but it’s even more important in Germany – Germans are big on rules everywhere, including in the application process. Understanding the expectations of German employers can make a huge difference in your job search. Application coaching can help ensure that your application package is crafted to present your skills in the best light for the German job market and has all the ‘right’ content (and none of the things that might push your application into the discard pile).
How Application Coaching Works
Know what you want, and just need some help figuring out how to get there in Germany? Great! We’ll meet briefly to see if coaching is a good fit for you. Once we’re ready to get started, you’ll send me the job posting (or postings) that you are interested in (or if you’ve been applying and you aren’t getting a positive response, send me the last few postings you’ve applied for) and your most recent application(s) including your cover letter, resume, and any relevant documents. We’ll go over some of the key elements of the German job market – a crash course in cross-cultural job applications – and how German employers think about hiring, and we’ll talk about what that means for your specific application. I’ll give you direct feedback on your application package and let you know how to make your application stand out in the German job market. Together, we can take a look changes you might want to make in order to present yourself successfully to future employers and at how well your resume fits the position you’re applying for. We can also go over any questions you might have about the job market and about relocating to Germany. I’m also happy to provide language/grammar corrections on applications and to review your professional social media presence!

I offer application counseling in two-session blocks with the option to add additional sessions if you’d like more feedback or guidance in making changes.
